Also with high anticipation, Bespoke Abode is excited to announce that we now carry Weathered Benches Co., handmade products crafted from wood discovered at the Charlestown Navy Yard in Boston. This very same, historical wood was used for the recent restoration of the Charles W. Morgan.
This wood, which was found in 2010, had been buried in the 1800's to preserve it for the eventual reconstruction of the USS Constitution or the USS Constellation. However, as the Boston Globe Explains, by "the mid-1880s, the shipyard began making all-metal boats, and then, in 1914, on the brink of World War I, the timber pond was covered to make room for diesel storage tanks."
In today's design world, reclaimed wood with a story to tell is highly coveted, espeically when it is combined with outstanding craftmanship. The massive naval timbers of live oak and white oak have been used by the Weathered Benches Co. to handcraft beautiful benches, coffee tables, and accessories. We currently have benches and beautifully cribbage boards in stock.
